take a look at carcassonne or limoux, i live in france in limoux so im slightly biased :) and they are too beautiful places with plenty to do and many hotels from ibis/etap to local french hotels, carcassonne has a huge cite/castle with hotels, bars and resturants within its massive walls :) hope this helps ?

I lived in Montpellier one year, (now in another part of france) but i must say that Montpellier by far is my favorite town in all of France. IN languedoc-roussillon.

It is a beautiful town. Many parks, sights to see, Antigonne is very nice for being the more modern part of town. All is walking distance and even a tramway. There is also a youth hostel not far from the tramway stop L. Blum.

La place de la comédie is the city centre where there are lots of café, nice book store at Polygonne called Sauramps. Lots of nightlife since it is a college town. Musée Fabre also..many smaller musées in town just watch out for them, on the history of the town etc.

I stayed in Carcassonne for a week and liked it very much . . . you will need a car to get around. Would suggest you post this query on tripadvisor.com

I went on holiday with Madame Vacances, a French company, this summer in Languedoc. I stayed in a residence called les mas des oliviers in Uzès. I had a wonderful time, the area is full of history and things to see, plus the residence is perfectly located. I saw on their website that they have a residence in Montpellier as well. Take a look at their website, I’ve listed in below…

Collioure is honestly a BEAUTIFUL place ! You must see it… I have a house in Port Leucate, pretty cool too but nothing compared to Collioure :).
