    The Azure coast.

It would be in reference to the colour of the Mediterranean there. Very nice area I might add, great seafood as well.

Cote d’Azur is the French name for the riviera.

The French Riviera (French: Côte d’Azur, Occitan: Còsta Azzura) is part of France’s southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, reaching from Cassis to Menton, at the border with Italy. Cannes is host to the annual presentation of the Palme d’Or, which attracts movie stars from around the world.

Literal translation is Côte = coast
    d’Azur = of azure

    azure as in bluish colour)

The first recorded use of azure as a color name in English was in 1374, according to Maerz and Paul A Dictionary of Color New York:1930 McGraw-Hill Page 190

Côte d’Azur is also known as the French Riviera.
‘Riviera’ itself is actually an italian word meaning
    …..you guessed it….coast.

    Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur
    It is made up of:

•the former French province of Provence
•the former papal territory of Avignon,
    known as Comtat Venaissin
•the former Sardinian-Piedmontese county of Nice,
whose coastline is known in English as the French Riviera,
and in French as the Côte d’Azur
•the southeastern part of the former French province of Dauphiné, in the French Alps.

In html terms, the Hex number for azure blue is
    #F0FFFF

Azure coast (lit. coast of azure).
lt’s not in reference to the colour of the sea but of the sky which is ‘bleu azur’, a colour close to the light blue.
